Honoring Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas
Los Angeles, January 29, 2009 -- The Los Angeles County Asian American Employees Association (LACAAEA)
hosted a very memorable and enjoyable event for SUPERVISOR Mark Ridley-Thomas, the newest LOS ANGELES COUNTY Supervisor at Empress Pavilion Restaurant, Los Angeles, California, on Thursday evening, January 29, 2009.
This special Meet and Greet fell on the first week of the Chinese Lunar New Year of Ox, known as Spring Festival, the most important festival for family reunions in China with a population of 1.3 billion. According to Chinese Zodiac, 2009 is the "Year of the Ox", which lasts from January 26, 2009 to February 14, 2010. The Chinese New Year does not begin on January 1st, but on a date that corresponds with the second New Moon after the winter equinox, so it varies from year to year.
Nearly 300 attendees basked in a joyful festive atmosphere while spending the evening in honor of Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas. The audience, which included many dignitaries and nearly 20 County Department Heads were treated to a splendid and colorful folk and lion dance performances. The performers included: Khmer Arts Academy (Blessing Dance); IMAGE Pinoy Dance Troupe of Los Angeles; and East Wind Lion Dance Troupe. At the end of his closing remarks, Chief Executive Officer William T Fujioka wished everyone a very Happy New Year.
In the spirit of family and friendship we wish Supervisor Ridley-Thomas a very rewarding, productive, and successful career serving the people of Los Angeles County. Congratulations and welcome to our County family.
