LACAAEA Celebrates Asian Pacific American Heritage Month May

Los Angeles -- On May 24, 2012, the Los Angeles County Asian American Employees Association (LACAAEA) hosted its 2012 Asian Pacific American Heritage Day Celebration at the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration in Los Angeles, California. The event celebrated and recognized the countless contributions and accomplishments of Asian and Pacific Islanders in Los Angeles County. May was designated as “Asian Pacific American Heritage Month” by President George H. W. Bush in 1990. Among those in attendance were the California State Controller, Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Deputies, the County CEO and many other dignitaries.
Phillip Chen, Board Deputy to Mayor Michael D. Antonovich, Fifth District, spoke about the importance of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and presented a scroll to Jackie Guavarra, President of the LACAAEA.
William T Fujioka, Chief Executive Officer for the County of Los Angeles, and Mike A. Gin, Mayor of Redondo Beach, served as
Guest Speakers and spoke about Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and the achievements of the API community.
California State Controller John Chiang gave a keynote
address. As the highest ranking Asian Pacific Islander (API) in California government, he spoke about his role as State Controller, of accountability, and of giving back monies owed to the constituents.

Congresswoman Judy Chu,
California State Senator, Ted W. Lieu, Assemblymember Roger Hernandez and Assemblymember Mike Davis, sent their representatives, to present either a proclamation or a scroll to LACAAEA President Jackie Guavarra to congratulate and recognize the Los Angles County Asian American Employees Association's contribution to Asian Pacific Islander (API) communities.
Suzie Suh (CBS/KCAL) and Ted Chen (KNBC) served as Mistress and Master of Ceremonies, and delighted the crowd with their professionalism, quick wit and sparkling personalities. The Chinatown Service Center
(CSC) and Dr. Munson Kwok were 2011 Outstanding Community Service award recipients.
The awards were presented by Mike A. Gin to both Dr. Munson Arthur Kwok and Mr. Lawrence Lue, Chief Executive Officer, on behalf of Chinatown Services Center.
There are many performances representing many Asian nations by many ethnical groups. A Dragon Dance performed by County Department Heads, dance performances, food trucks and approximately twenty County and community organizations all contributed to a very successful event.
Flags representing various Asian and Pacific Islanders (API) served as the main backdrop for the 2011 Heritage Day celebration.
