LACAAEA Celebrates Asian Pacific American Heritage Month May 20, 2010
On May 20, 2010, the Los Angeles County Asian American Employees Association (LACAAEA) put on its Asian Pacific American Heritage Day Celebration at the courtyard of the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration for the second year in a row. This event celebrated and recognized the countless contributions and accomplishments of Asian and Pacific Islanders in Los Angeles County. May was designated as “Asian Pacific American Heritage Month” by President George H. W. Bush in 1990. Among those in attendance were a Los Angeles County Supervisor, the County’s CEO and many other dignitaries.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, Fifth District, spoke about the importance of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and presented a scroll to Irene Hamada, President of the LACAAEA.
William T. Fujioka, the Chief Executive Officer of Los Angeles County, spoke about Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.
Helen E. Jo, Deputy Chief of Los Angeles County Fire Department, and Dr. David K. Yoo, Director at UCLA's Asian American Studies Center, served as a Guest Speaker and a Keynote Speaker, respectively.

Assemblymember Ted W. Lieu and Mike Davis, sent their representatives to present either a proclamation or a scroll to LACAAEA President Irene Hamada to congratulate and recognize the Los Angles County Asian American Employees Association's contribution to Asian Pacific Islander (API) communities.

Leyna Nguyen, KCBS 2/KCAL 9 anchor, and UCLA Asian American Studies Center, received the Outstanding Community Service Awards. The awards were presented by Dr. Richard Sun, San Marino Councilmember to Leyna Nguyen and Dr. David K. Yoo on behalf of UCLA Asian American Studies Center.
There are many performances representing many Asian nations by many ethnical groups, including Chinese Dance, called Feather Fan.
