Honorable Supervisor Don Knabe, 4th District, is addressing questions during the roundtable discussion at the Meet & Greet with Supervisor Knabe on August 31, 2010.
On Tuesday, August 31, 2010, representatives from the Los Angeles County Asian American Employees Association (LACAAEA), including Irene Hamada (President), Jackie Guevarra (Vice President of Programs/Events), Wendy Watanabe (County Auditor-Controller), Janice Fukai (County Alternate Public Defender), Helen Jo (Deputy Chief, Fire Department), Barbara Yu (Fire Department) and Jeremy Li (Department of Auditor-Controller, also a boardmember of LACAAEA) attended a Meet and Greet Reception for Supervisor Don Knabe (Fourth District). The Meet and Greet with Supervisor Knabe was sponsored by the Asian Pacific Policy and Planning Council (A3PCON). A3PCON is hosting individual receptions with each of the County's five Supervisors.
Introductions were followed by a roundtable discussion with Supervisor Knabe. Various individuals raised concerns and issues affecting the Asian and Pacific Islander (API) community, particularly of service delivery to APIs in Los Angeles County, the hiring and promotion of APIs within County government, etc. In additions, A3PCON presented a proposal, for consideration by the Board of Supervisors, on how the API community within the County can be better served. Marikoh Kahn, A3PCON President, facilitated the discussion.
A3PCON, established in 1976, is a coalition of agencies and individual supporters who advocate for the rights and services of the API community in the greater Los Angeles region. A3PCON’s work is carried out through committees and task forces whose purpose is to initiate action of major policy and planning issues in many areas such as health, human service, education and culture.
