The 25th Annual Fish Fry on Sept. 13, 2008
Los Angeles, Sept. 13, 2008 -- The 25th annual "Fish Fry" was held on Saturday,
September 13, 2008, bringing together members of LACAAEA, their families and friends at Mother's Beach, Marina del Rey, California.
LACAAEA recently honored former presidents, Henry Yee and Phillip Ow, for their many years of contribution towards the annual Fish Fry. This year, Henry and Phillip once again prepared yummilicious meals for all those in attendance. Phillip dazzled us with fried fish, steamed fish, fried fish nuggets, and fried hot dogs. YUM! Henry stewed up his signature seafood gumbo and had everyone amazed at the big pots used to cook the soup. LACAAEA officers and members set up shop at 7:00 a.m., while Henry and Phillip prepared some delicious fried rice for these early risers. Lorraine and Evan Sunday-Brown provided the music, while Geri and Charlie Isara provided flowers to decorate the tables from their own garden!

While Borina filled the position of sous chef to Henry, Geri Isara and Akiko Tagawa were busy helping Mary Lam roll up spam and furikake musubis. (The Chinese pork flake furikake was awesome too!)
Members and their families began arriving and joining in on the festivities around 10:00 a.m., and with them, brought some delectable dishes for the enjoyment of all. Borina’s children (led by Des) did a fabulous job of overseeing the children’s activities and the kids had a great time making picture frames and beaded necklaces. Lorraine and Evan also put together some really fun relay games for both kids and parents to enjoy! Evan was also the mastermind behind the BGM. There was also bingo and raffles hosted by Irene Hamada, Connie Yee, Dulce Maycumber, and Meav Ear, and many of our members took home all sorts of prizes.
During the entire event, Jeremy Li was busy taking pictures for all to enjoy (on our website).
The Fish Fry is a tradition that has now reached the quarter century mark. It is a great opportunity to see old friends, meet new ones, relax, enjoy the ocean air and sun, and chow down on some fabulous eats! If you were unable to attend, we hope you can enjoy the event through Jeremy’s photos and hope that they will tempt you to come out next year.
