A beautiful retirement luncheon was held for Henry Yee, our President, on March 20, 2008 at the Monterey Hill Steakhouse in Monterey Park, California. The event was filled with many of Henry’s former directors, managers, co-workers, friends, and LACAAEA members. Everyone who presented service awards, plaques, scrolls, and congratulatory letters spoke highly of a man who served Los Angeles County with integrity, dedication, and the ability to motive others in Administration of contracts for the betterment of the County and the Departments he serviced.
Henry was known as the contracts “guru” or “go-to-man” when complex and difficult issues arose about the administration of contracts. His vast contracting knowledge and experience was recognized not only in the County, but with the State of California as well. By culminating his 38 year career with the County as a Capital Projects Program Manager for the Sheriff’s Department he leaves a legacy that will be missed by all who knew and worked with this highly esteemed professional.
Many presenters such as Paul Tanaka, Sheriff's Department's Assistant Sheriff spoke of his outstanding contracting skills and expertise.
He helped with the development of contracting policies and procedures for the Sheriff's Department and the people of Los Angeles County. Mr. Tanaka thanked, recognized, and presented Henry with the Sheriff Department’s Distinguished Service Award. This is the highest honor that can be bestowed to any employee of the
Sheriff's Department. Congratulations Henry!
Other presenters from the Sheriff’s Department included: Victor Rampulla, Glen Dragovich, Bill Dibble, and Frank Williams who handled the Master of Ceremony duties. All the above speakers spoke highly of Henry’s accomplishments, outstanding professional expertise, and ability to handle complex and difficult issues and problems that were resolved by Henry's professional knowledge and leadership.
The Department that Henry worked with the longest was
Internal Services Department. Two employees from the Department, Tom Tindall and Ritu Sehgal praised Henry for his professionalism, encouragement and friendship that he shared with them. Ms. Ritu Sehgal spoke of how Henry impacted her life as a mentor and thanked him for teaching her many life lessons that she can use in her County career.
After all these glowing words of praise, the man of the hour Mr. Henry Yee began by thanking everyone for coming and helping him celebrate this wonderful day with him. In Henry’s calm demeanor he spoke about how his career has crossed many paths, but the single most important point he discussed was his ability to work well with others and to help people he worked with to “think outside of the box” and to develop professionally. He enjoyed working and sharing his knowledge with others.
Henry recognized the Los Angeles County Asian American Employees Association for its many accomplishments and its ability to reach out and help others. In closing, the Association expresses it heartfelt gratitude to Henry for his many years of service as our outstanding leader and President. He has faithfully served our Association with a compassionate heart and true dedication to serving our members. A toast to Henry Yee…Our President…Aloha and best wishes for a long, healthy, happy, and fun-filled retirement!
