The Los Angeles County Asian American Employees Association welcomes you to our Installation Dinner. We thank you for sharing your time with us. The LACAAEA has been in existence since the 1970’s and has a tradition of having some extraordinary people from the Asian Pacific Islander (API) Community as its members.
In 1983, we had one such special person as the Master of Ceremonies at our Installation Dinner, Mas Fukai, Assistant Chief Deputy to Supervisor Kenneth Hahn. Mas was a pioneer in the API community and he inspired an entire generation to get involved in the political process to encourage, support and defend the rights of those of us who have been left behind and ignored. He encouraged all of us to be better than we thought we could be so that we could make the community a better place.
Tonight, twenty five years later, we have another remarkable person come to our Installation Dinner as our Mistress of Ceremonies, Mas’ daughter, Janice Fukai. Ms. Fukai is currently the Los Angeles County Alternate Public Defender. Janice’s job is to ensure that her clients receive fair representation before the courts. Her sense of justice is evident in the numerous speeches and presentations that she makes at various events in the community. She continues her father’s legacy of public service and is an inspiration to those who know her.
