With over 35 years of service to the Los Angeles County Probation Department, George Yan began his career on April 1, 1975 and has worked in various assignments such as the juvenile halls, probation camps, special programs such as the Juvenile Alternative Work Service (JAWS) Program, Asian Gang Unit, Gang Alternative and Prevention Program, Staff Training, and his current assignment as Supervisor of the Intake and Detention Control Unit.

In 1999, Mr. Yan developed and established the Probation Training Academy at West Los Angeles College through a revenue sharing partnership. His credentials include a Bachelor's degree in Sociology with a minor in Physical Education. He holds the academic rank of Professor of Administration of Justice at West Los Angeles College, certificates in Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST), Standards and Training for Corrections (STC), Use of Chemical Agents, Basic Physical Restraint, and the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

Other accomplishments and services:

Served as the First Vice President of Asian Pacific Probation Association during the pioneer stages of the organization.
Actively involved in recruiting, mentoring, and promoting Asian employees in the Department.
Instrumental in securing an alternate Asian bilingual exam for Deputy Probation Officers to address the issue of underrepresentation of Asians in the Department..
Recipient of the Local 685 Clyde Longmire Award in 2008 for outstanding service to the law enforcement community.
In May 2010, he was awarded the “Paul Higa” Award by his peers for outstanding achievements, contributions, excellence, and dedication to the corrections and law enforcement community.
He continues to be actively involved in various Asian organizations and was recently elected to the position of Vice-President of Events and Programs in the Los Angeles County Asian American Employees Association (LACAAEA).
