The Los Angeles County Cambodian Employees Association (LACCEA) held its 2008 New Year Celebration (The Year of the Rat) on March 28, 2008 at Hak Heang Restaurant Restaurant in Long Beach, California. Approximately 250 people attended the event, including Steven Golightly, Director, Child Support Services Department (CSSD), Sheryl Spiller, Chief Deputy Director, Department of Public Social Services, and Long Beach City Councilman (District 6) Dee Andrews. LACCEA’s president, Tevy Sithan – who is also an active member of LACAAEA – gave a multi-lingual address. She welcomed guests, family and colleagues and thanked them for their patience and support.
Mr. Golightly gave the opening remarks, wished everyone a Happy New Year and praised Ms. Sithan for the work she does at CSSD, citing she always “puts a positive spin” on the services provided by the Department to County residents. Mr. Golightly thanked the LACCEA for inviting him to the New Year celebration and looks forward to being a part of it annually.
LACCEA honored one of its founders and past president as he retires from County service after 25 years. The night’s entertainment was primarily provided by The Spirit of Khmer Angkor Dancers, who performed a Blessing Dance, Peacock Dance and the Seven Day Colors Fashion Show – with each day representing a color to be worn (e.g., Sunday=red, Monday=orange, Tuesday=purple, etc.).
