Wow! What a retirement party for Mr. Bryce Yokomizo the Los Angeles County Director of Public Social Services (DPSS) at the Sheraton Universal Hotel on April 12, 2007. The event was a glowing tribute to a man whose County career spanned 33 years. Mr. Yokomizo attributes his very rewarding career to the highly skilled and dedicated DPSS mentors, managers, and staff that believed and supported him in his ascension to Director of the Department.

The Master of Ceremonies for the evening's festivities was David E. Janssen, Chief Administrative Officer for the County of Los Angeles. He was sincere, humorous and helped to keep the evening's event lively and funfilled for all who attended this memorable Aloha tribute to Mr. Bryce Yokomizo.

The three honorary speakers included: Eddy Tanaka, Former DPSS Director Retired; Will Stewart, DPSS Manager Retired, and Jacob Aguilar, DPSS Management Staff all portrayed Mr. Yokomizo as a man of vision, high moral character, strong commitment to the Department’s DPSS managers and staff. Mr. Yokomizo responded in his speech that he was an effective Director through the efforts of his caring and giving executive managers and staff in guiding and supporting the Department’s efforts towards enriching the lives of families and kids through effective and caring services.

In addition to many plaques and special awards, Mr. Yokomizo was given special recognition by the following organizations including the Los Angeles County Asian American Employees Association, PSS Commission, Brotherhood Crusade, and SEIU Local 721. Our current President Mr. Henry Yee presented a beautiful vase to Mr. Yokomizo as a small token of our appreciation for his many years of friendship and support.

In closing, Mr. Yokomizo expressed in the dinner program that: “Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of knowing so many of you personally, and those friendships have truly enriched my life. May God bless you all. It’s been a privilege to serve as your Director.” Thank you Mr. Yokomizo, may your golden years of retirement be filled with much joy, peace and happiness.
