      Michelle Cheng Kim is an attorney with the Alternate Public Defender’s office, where she is a Team Leader. Michelle joined the County in 2002, when she started as a Senior Law Clerk with the Public Defender. She was with the Public Defender’s Office until 2005. In 2005, she joined the Alternate Public Defender’s Office.

Michelle is a graduate of UCLA School of Law, where she volunteered at the HIV/AIDS Legal Services Alliance and clerked at the Federal Public Defender’s office. While in law school, Michelle also externed with the late Honorable Robert M. Takasugi, U.S. District Court, Central District of California. Prior to being a lawyer, Michelle worked at UCLA doing HIV/AIDS research, and also worked at the Asian Pacific American Legal Center (APALC) on voting rights and hate crimes issues. Michelle has previously served as a board member of the Asian Pacific AIDS Intervention Team (APAIT) and currently serves on the boards of OCA-GLA and the Southern California Chinese Lawyers Association (SCCLA). Michelle received her B.A. from Stanford University.
