On August 7, 2008, a number of LACAAEA members attended the 13th Annual “All for the Love of Kids” fundraiser and awards dinner at the Edwards Renaissance Theatre in Alhambra. This annual event, spearheaded by 5th District Supervisor Mike Antonovich and the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), raises funds for the DCFS Family and Children’s Services Trust Fund. The Fund provides financial resources for services and goods that cannot be paid for with government funding, such as orthodontia, educational trips, optical needs and eye exams, music lessons, academic tutors, and team sports.
The event’s theme was “Always and Forever,” which focused on the importance and need for every child to have a loving and permanent home of their own; more than 20,000 children are under the auspices of DCFS. The Mistress of Ceremonies was Vera Jimenez, early morning TV traffic reporter for CBS 2 News. The evening’s itinerary featured a silent and live auction, buffet dinner, Heart Gallery guest speakers, entertainment by singer Andrea Jones and the Lulu Washington Youth Dance Ensemble, and awards presentations by Supervisor Antonovich and DCFS Director Patricia Ploehn to Jim Gott (retired MLB player), Cathy Gott, Jim Nicolay, Kristen Green, and Roam Gunn.
