Celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month May 20, 2009
Los Angeles, May 20, 2009 -- The Los Angeles County Asian American Employees Association (LACAAEA) organized the wonderful festivities to celebrate and recognize the countless contributions and accomplishments of Asian and Pacific Islanders in Los Angeles County. The celebration was held at the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration Mall, 500 West Temple Street, Los Angeles, California.
Los Angeles County Supervisors Don Knabe, Fourth District; Michael D. Antonovich, Fifth District; and Mark Ridley-Thomas, Second District all spoke about the importance of the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and wished everyone well.
William T. Fujioka, the Chief Executive Officer of Los Angeles County, spoke about his own personal background, heritage, and how the American system of government has allowed him the opportunity to ascend to one of the highest position in Los Angeles County
Paul K. Tanaka, Assistant Sheriff of Los Angeles County, Mayor for the City of Gardena, as the Keynote Speaker, addressed the
tough economic conditions facing the nation and the world. He encouraged everyone to say “Thank You” to each of the County Supervisors for their jobs and the tremendous effort and
commitment each Supervisor makes every day. A quote “You do not have to say your name, just say “Thank you, Supervisor, when you see any supervisor next time."
Christine Chiang, Anchor/Reporter, LA 18/KSCI TV and supporter of the Asian Pacific Community Fund (APCF) received the Outstanding Service Award. The award was presented by City of Gardena Councilman Ronald Ikejiri to Ms. Chiang. Ms. Chiang recognized Wendy Watanabe, Auditor-Controller of Los Angeles County for her support and help in making this award possible.
The Los Angeles County Asian American Employees Association would like to thank everyone who supported this wonderful event.
