Kelly Jew, class of 2013 at UCLA (The second best public university in the nation according to the 2011 edition of U.S. News & World Report), is the recipient for the Howard Takata Trade and Vocational Scholarship award.

Kelly Jew's parents, Miller Jew (L1) and Helen Jew (L2) pose a group photo with presenter Howard Takata (R2), Irene Hamada (R1), Meav Ear (L3, Scholarship Committee Chairwoman) and Greg Sasaki (Scholarship Committee member) after accepting the Howard Takata Trade and Vocational Scholarship award on behalf of Kelly Jew at Marina del Rey, California, Sept. 11, 2010.

Kelly Jew is the daughter of retired LA County employee Helen M Jew from the Dept of Health Services. Kelly was the president of her Culver City High School Asian Pacific Islander American club for two years. Kelly can be described as having the rare combination of athletic and academic talent. She was a basket ball player throughout her four years of high school. She is currently a member of the UCLA cheer squad. Kelly hopes to complete her bachelors degree at UCLA and continue on to medical school.

Kelly's guidance counselor described her as "bright, energetic, compassionate and genuinely well rounded." One of Kelly's favorite quotes is that "practice makes perfect". Her Calculus AP teacher describes as an "inspirational athlete... who is extremely well liked by her peers and teachers. She is known for her honesty, friendliness and concern for her fellow students."
