Charles Li, class of 2011 at UCLA (The second best public university in the nation according to the 2011 edition of U.S. News & World Report), received the Ed Lee Continuing Undergraduate Scholarship award at Marina del Rey, California, Sept. 11, 2010.
Charles Li started his collegiate studies at Pasadena City College and then transferred to University of CA of Los Angeles. He is involved with the UCLA labor Center. Working to set up
programs, workshops and seminars. Charles plans to apply to law school after he finishes his studies at UCLA. He hopes to further his volunteer work upon graduation by joining the Peace Corps. He eventually hopes to blend his academic and volunteer life by
becoming an internal lawyer focusing on advancing human rights.
His youth advisor at First Southern Baptist Church describes Charles as an intelligent and motivated individual who visited the elderly at convalescent homes, helped raise money for families who had loved ones in prison and worked at annual community block parties. His Accounting Professor described Charles as having an ability to persevere in difficult circumstances, a young man with leadership skills and the type of student any teacher would love to have in their class.
